I'm back!

***So I have not been able to post much about the BIG leagues here around Yorkton, Saskatchewan because I haven't really learned a lot about them yet. I have not got a chance to see a game of any kind yet. Hoping for Tuesday of next week to get in on a broadcast with Craig Stein. He seems to have a great job for a 22 year-old kid and he works his ass off.

***For as much as I notice Craig is doing three to four games a week sometimes getting back at 3am. Ya I'm jealous

***So far my time in Yorkton has been good, a little slow news wise after 2 months interning at 980 in Regina but the benefits are enormous. 1-I am on the air, 2-I am in the Harvard family 3-I get paid!!!!

***I found myself watching the french broadcast of Toronto-Ottawa over the NFL game tonight. All 3 NFL games today were brutal! For that matter so are TO and Ottawa. Ottawa won in a SO by the way. Spezza and Alfredson scored.

***Did you watch the WHL-Russia game last night, it was bad, that series is a waste of time. For the Dub anyway, they are the only junior league that never loses to those guys. I guess that is why the WJ team is always stacked with WHL players. This year should be just the same including 18 year-olds Jordan Eberle and Colten Tuebert. They are Pats, great friends, awesome hockey players and in one and a half months, Gold Medalists!

***I am trying to get Queen City Sports Corner going again but it is not looking promising. Sports groups in Regina would rather beg for money and whine about not getting coverage than take the time to go on a radio show for 10 minutes to plug there clubs. There is a reason you haven't heard of all these great groups in Regina!!!! Oh well their loss.

***Does Pete Paczko have the same problem for Sportzone on Access? I doubt it but I bet more people listen to CJTR 91.3 than watch Access. I would put money on it. It's good though Sportzone and Pete are top notch. Access not so much. In fact my name is on the credits of a few of SZ episodes. Miss you Terry Bell.

***What else is on my mind? Why do people start facebook groups trying to fight justice? I am not going to get into the list of the ridiculous groups that pop up daily but people your voice means nothing on the social network. Don't waste your time or mine please.

***As the Philly-Arizona game ends on the NFL network I wonder where did Bryant Gumbel go? As bad and annoying as he is better than the guy they have on now. TERRIBLE!

***I am a grumpy man, I need something good to say that you readers will like....I got one, this post is over..

Provincial Finals

Moose Jaw Peacock won the 3A title yesterday by the score of 43-7 over the Weyburn Eagles. Leboldus made a mockery of the 4A final with a 66-0 win over Saskatoon's Aden Bowman. WOW!! Congratulations to both the schools on a great year.

It is now time to watch N-F-L, I love Sundays!! Don't forget about the Pats game tonight at 6. 1st place showdown with Broncos. Should be a beauty.

Welcome

As of 3:30 today the High School football season will be over and the main topic of my blog has faded for the season. SO now I will expand. With a new web address and a new perspective. All me pretty much all the the time.....

Here I am 9 days away from my first paying broadcasting job and I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes leaving my lovely wife Amy behind to care for our zoo is not my best option but I have to do what I have to do. I am off to GX 94 in Yorkton and will be reporting on all Yorkon happenings PLUS doing colour commentary for all the junior hockey GX 94 covers. And that is a ton. Check it out at http://www.gx94radio.com/. You think my buddy Rod Pedersen works hard, your right, but look at my soon to be new co-worker, and fellow WABC'er Craig Stein`s(steen) schedule. This guy is a machine!!!!!!!!!!
************************************************************************************
So I have expanded the blog because I will be involved in some SJ and MJ hockey and also the Junior B ranks and people who want to hear the inside stuff an get some of it from me. The rest they can get from the outstanding Craig Stein who is the sports director at GX 94. His blog is top drawer, check it out at http://www.craigstein.blogspot.com/.
**********************************************************************************
I will also let you know the latest updates of all the happenings involving Queen City Sports Corner on CJTR 91.3. I still plan on putting that show on the air every Tuesday night at 6:30. Check it out, it is fantastic as I talk sports with local clubs and teams in the Queen City.
************************************************************************************
The best part of all is that I have detached the RIFL from the blog title so I can speak my mind like I always do! The world has got so disgusting with high school bullying, fights, shootings etc I had to jump through a few hops just to put the blog on the web to begin with. Now I have a little more range. I enjoyed my many nights sitting in the Mosaic press box posting about HS football, hanging with the likes of the legendary Rob Vanstone, who might just be the most polite person I have ever met, almost to a fault actually, and the the young up and comer Chris Jaster, but to tell you the truth the RHSAA did nothing to help me out in this cause. I was offering my free time to help the RIFL get a little more exposure and they didn`t lift a finger. Oh well. in the end we both benefited because RV knows my name and when was the last time the RIFL scores were mentioned during a Pats 620 ckrm broadcast. Uh never until me and Roddy hooked that up this year. So thumbs up to us, thumbs down to the High school football administration. Might have said too much!

Any comments are very welcome and if you have an event, a team, or group and would like to be on Queen City Sports Corner just comment here.

News & Notes

So first things first here is a quick recap of the city high school football championships. Of course we you all know Leboldus knocked off Riffel 24-6 for the 4A crown. Leboldus was led by RB Jacob Carr who rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns. QB Jake McGeough was 10 for 16 for 155 yards. Adam Ralko had 116 yards receiving on five catches. Seamus Neary returned a Catlyn Todorivich pass 20 yards for a touchdown lte in the 4th quarter to seal the victory. Todorovich was 11 of 32 for 206 yards with a td and the aforementioned crucial interception.

There is really no secret to the success of the Weyburn Eagles, play great defence and run the ball down the opposing players throats. They did just that to the tune of 260 rushing yards. Leading the way was RJ Arts who had 152 yards on 10 carrries and one touchdown. In there was a 60 yarder and a 55 yarder. Chandler Dion had the other Eagle score.

Weyburn will now take on Moose Jaw Peacock in the A Provincial final on Saturday at 1pm in Weyburn.

In the 4A Provincial final Leboldus will head to the city of bridges to face Aden Bowmen at the Gordie Howe Bowl. That game is also at 1pm.
*************************************************************************************

So I started this blog on the suggestion of Rod Pedersen for a couple of reasons, (a)for my own personal experience and secondly to put another media source out there for anybody to find out what is going on in the RIFL if indeed someone wanted to. The comments have been few and far between but all have been GOOD comments, and one even coming from a woman in Winnepeg. Since I have started I kinda like doing this but the season is has 2 games left so where do I go from here with it. I am thinking the name will change and obviously will just have to expand on what I talk about. That should be easy there is so many sports in Regina and southern Saskatchewan that there is room for plenty of blogs in this province whether people care what I have to say or not, I know one person does and that is me.

Weyburn beats O'Neill

[all photos from tonight's games courtesy of Angela Klein]

Weyburn 3A Stewart Champs

Weyburn's defence is too much too handle and they pitch a shut-out over the O'Neill Tians. The final score is 17 to nothing. Celebration pictures will follow and I will have complete highlights posted tomorrow. I promise. I will also let you know what is happening on the provincial level as well.
